Agenda Register Delegations SOLx Sponsors Participants Summit Home The BALLE Shift Capital Summit is an invitational gathering for individuals who are building healthy, equitable local economies — the visionaries and field leaders who are advancing local economy strategies and lighting a path for others to follow. We are creating an intimate experience and convening for 250 leaders to facilitate deeper conversations among BALLE Network leaders, and leading edge partners in the broader local economy movement, to identify and help you capitalize on opportunities for collaboration to accelerate your work. Location & Timing Where will the Summit be held? The Summit will take place in Pacific Grove, California, between Monterey and Carmel. All Summit sessions, food and lodging will be at Asilomar Conference Grounds. Please visit our Registration and Accommodations page for more details. What are the times for the full program? Summit programming will begin at 4pm PST on Wednesday, November 14, and end at 11pm PST on Friday, November 16. Pre-Summit activities will be offered during the day on Wednesday. Pricing Is food and lodging included in the Summit registration fee? No. Participants must purchase food and lodging packages in addition to Summit registration. Please visit our Registration and Accommodations page for more details. Are there single day rates for registration? Yes, there are single day rates for registration if you are staying onsite at Asilomar or offsite at another location. Please visit our Registration and Accommodations page for more details. Are there scholarships available? Yes, there will be scholarships available to cover the full registration fee. We will be adding information about how to apply for scholarships soon. There are reduced rates for shared rooms at Asilomar, based on availability. Are there group discounts available? For the first time, we are offering the opportunity to participate as a Delegation, which requires a minimum of 10 people, and limited to individuals working within the same community or region. We are happy to provide support connecting you with individuals in our Network who may work in your region to consider as part of a Delegation. Delegations require sponsorship by an organization or individual. More information will be available soon. There are reduced rates for shared rooms at Asilomar, based on availability. Program What are the Summit topics? The agenda will emphasize a number of ways to direct financial and social capital to build healthy, equitable local economies, including how to: Democratize finance and investing Resource women and entrepreneurs of color Invest in rural ecosystem building Prioritize indigenous communities Accelerate cooperative ownership of business and land Incentivize independent business and alternative economic development Regenerate soil and nature Please check our Agenda page for more information as our program is developed. Registration Does registration for the Summit include lodging? No, registration does not include lodging. Register for the Summit at our registration site using the password you received in your invitational email. You can reserve lodging separately with Asilomar or the hotel of your choice. Asilomar will open registration for lodging packages in March. If you choose to stay at one of the off-site accommodations instead of the Asilomar Conference grounds, there will be an additional $150–$300 fee to cover meals and site usage at Asilomar, depending on the number of days you plan to join us. You will be able to make this selection when you register for the Summit using the password provided in your invitational email. Yes, you may RSVP with your intention to participate by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. How do I cancel or modify my registration? Log into your Eventbrite account with the username and password used to create your account. Click on “My Tickets” on the top of the page. Select the ticket you wish to modify and complete the process. If you run into any issues, please contact Jocelyn Wong at Jocelyn@bealocalist.org. I received a discount (promotional) code, how do I apply it? If you received a promotional code, enter that code on our event registration page near the “Register” button. Click “Apply” and review the options to see your discount applied. We recommend that you apply your promotional code prior to filling in any additional registration details. If you entered the promotional code in error, you will see an error on the top of the web page. If you have any questions, please email Jocelyn Wong. My promotional code is not working. If you are using the correct promotional code and receive the error message “The discount code has already been used” on the top of the page, there are 2 reasons this may occur: 1) the discount code has already been used. If this is inaccurate, please email Jocelyn Wong and we will take the appropriate steps to resolve this; or 2) the tickets are held up in the registration process (most common). This can occur if someone else used the promotional code and proceeded to the next step in filling out the information without completing the order. If this happens, please wait for at least 1 hour for those tickets to be released and the promotional code to be used again. Will there be scholarships available to attend the Summit? Yes, there will be scholarships available to cover the full registration fee. We will be adding information about how to apply for scholarships soon. What is the payment policy? Payments for the Summit may be processed with these credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. Payment must accompany your registration. Registrations without payment will not be processed. What is the cancellation and refund policy? Please visit the summit’s Eventbrite Registration Page for the current cancellation and refund policy for the event. The cancellation policies for lodging and meals can be found on the Asilomar website or other offsite accommodations. Can I bring a guest? Yes. Because the 2018 Shift Capital Summit is an invite-only event, please contact Leslie Lindo if there is someone that you would like to suggest for the invitation list. Is there walk-up registration? No. Please register in advance so that we can plan for your participation. How do I check in at the Summit? Check in for your lodging at the main Asilomar registration desk. Check in for the Summit will be located in Merrill Hall, where the gathering’s main sessions will be held, just up a small hill from the main Asilomar check-in building. Additional details will be provided onsite. Travel If I drive to the Summit each day, is there parking available? Yes. How can I coordinate a rideshare? Please post your interest to offer or seek a ride on the BALLE Summit Carpool Sign-Up Form. Air Travel Best airports to fly into: Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) – Small and expensive, but only a 20 min. drive to Summit location, with direct service to Asilomar on the Monterey Airbus San Jose International Airport (SJC) – 1.5 hour drive to Summit location, with direct service to Asilomar on the Monterey Airbus San Francisco International Airport (SFO) – 2.5 hr. drive to Summit location, with direct service to Asilomar on the Monterey Airbus **You can also download more detailed travel information here. Miscellaneous What meals are included with the food and lodging packages? The Standard food and lodging package includes all meals starting with dinner on Wednesday night and concluding with breakfast on Saturday morning. What if I have special dietary needs or allergies? Asilomar provides food options from local farms for omnivorous, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets. Unfortunately, they are not able to provide any other special meals for other dietary needs. Be sure to indicate your dietary needs and preferences at the appropriate point in the Asilomar registration site. What is the recommended attire for the Summit? Business casual. Bring comfortable shoes for walking and layers for average temperatures ranging from the lower 60s to the upper 40s Fahrenheit. Will there be Internet access at the conference venues? Yes. Details will be provided during Summit Registration. Are there any tips to keep in mind about attending a BALLE Summit? Come prepared to learn, be inspired, network, and have fun.
