BALLE Announces New Conference Scholarship for Michigan Social Entrepreneurs
April 12, 2012

BALLE is delighted to announce a new scholarship fund for Michigan Social Entrepreneurs to attend the 10th annual BALLE Business Conference, Real Prosperity Starts Here, taking place in Grand Rapids, Michigan from May 15 - 18, 2012. The conference also includes a post-conference tour of Detroit on May 19.

The Kellogg Foundation sponsored this schlarship fund to allow 25 entrepreneurs and community network leaders from target regions of Michigan to attend the 2012 BALLE Business Conference. Scholarship award winners will explore how local ownership, social enterprise, and collaboration between businesses and communities can improve economic justice and generate real, lasting prosperity for all people.

BALLE seeks scholarship applicants who will contribute to the diversity of the local living economies movement. In particular, this scholarship fund targets entrepreneurs and community network leaders from underrepresented communities in the Upper Peninsula, Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, and Muskegon, and beyond, including communities of color, low-income communities, and women-led organizations.

The scholarship includes:

  • Free registration to the BALLE main conference ($650 value), including all meals for Wednesday night, May 16 through Friday night, May 18.
  • A $250 travel stipend to help cover costs of lodging as well as getting to and from Grand Rapids.

To be eligible, please complete and submit the application by 11:00 PM Pacific Time on Thursday, April 26, 2012.  Completed applications should be emailed to Alie Walker, BALLE Program Coordinator. Please list “Michigan Scholarship Application” in the subject line.
